瑪莎育有四個孩子，但每個孩子的生父卻都不一樣。她因不忍看到克勞蒂出院後無家可歸，堅持邀她來和他們全家同住。一開始，克勞蒂被這個「家庭」煩得不得了，但很快就和他們打成了一片。但她此時卻發現，瑪莎其實得了絕症…。
隨著瑪莎的病情越來越惡化，克勞蒂與這家人的感情卻越來越升溫…。瑪莎有心在規劃著什麼嗎？克勞蒂又真的會和這家人在一起嗎？一隻鯰魚足以讓瀕死的沙丁魚群重新活絡起來，而這場充滿意外卻溫暖人心的旅程也即將展開…。
